Teacher mailed rec ... BUT

Today I went to tell the teacher who's doing my recs that I decided not to apply to one of the schools on my list after all. Before I could get a word out she greeted me with "I have great news, I finished your letters and they're all in the mail!"

What happens now? I definitely decided I don't want to apply to this school but they are going to have a random rec (I confirmed that GC has not sent out my transcript). I guess I can call the school but I dread the thought of having to explain "why". Maybe they won't even care to ask, but I am stressing over it.

Truth is that my school requires that we submit our requests for RD recs to teachers before Thanksgiving break, and between now and then I've just had more time to think about it. The school is a reach for me, and would bring my reaches to three - realistically I think one too many for me.

Anybody go through this before? Would appreciate any suggestions.

i don't see the problem here.

timatom:

Problem is a letter of recommendation has been sent to a school which will NOT be receiving an application from me.

My question is whether or not anyone knows what schools do or expect in cases like these. And I wanted to know if people think I should/should not call the school.

Basically I just need some general advice since I'm undecided as to what to do.

Its no big deal if you don't turn in an application
Just thank your teachers in the end for writing the letters.

This probably happens all the time.

They will keep your letter in a designated folder (presumably) and just discard it after the admissions process is over.

Don't worry about it.

I agree with noob & molly. I don't think you need to worry about it. I would skip the call. If you call they might ask you why you changed your mind and I can see how that might be an uncomfortable spot to be in.

yeah i mean whats the worst that can happen? they send you a letter that says "You didn't finish your app; thus we can't admit you." If you don't plan to apply anyway then the result for you would be the same regardless of whether you call or don't call.

don't worry about it. they'll just discard it. it's not a big deal.

I think it won't matter.
I sent scores to one school before I decided I wasn't applying there. They just won't get an application by the deadline, and they'll probably just throw your letter out.

Justlookin,

Don't worry about it. My s school does the exact same thing. All teach rec/ssr/transcripts etc... must have been turned in by Nov. 17th. This happens ALL the time. They will just keep the paperwork on file and after the appl process they toss them out.

justlookin, what do you think the scchool will do with a recommendation with no application? think about

two things- it will sit in a file wating to be matched up with an application...when none comes, it will just sit there

or

the school will start a file, and you MAY get a note from them saying you are missing some items....IF you get that note, or an email, jsut send a polite, I will not be applying there

No ones feelings will be hurt, it is nice that you feel bad, but this is a none issue
