what should I do?

Can you give us some context or details?

spike his (her?) coffee

almost every day my AP US history teacher talks about how the religious right is wrong, or how Christians use the bible to justify things like slavery, and how Christians are crazy and they think that if they think a bad thought they will be struck by lightning

I wish my teachers would make anti religious comments.

You could report him or her to the superintendent or parents group.

I had this sub once who tried to preach to us. He was talking about angels, Satan, sinning etc. He got pulled out by our principal the next period.

Tell an administrator that it makes you uncomfortable.

I say just deal, you’re in high school in a college level class. In college, your professors will give all their opinions as well, and you won’t be able to do anything about it.

That said, your teacher will probably make some fair points. The religious right can be pretty nutty, you have to say.

That’s funny, because my AP Lit class gets into a lot of religious topics. Yet my teacher always says “These are not my ideas, remember I am not trying to preach to you and this doesn’t reflect myself. I do not put my religious beliefs into anything we talk about.”

She’s extremely nice!

listen to her?

I would say that if your teacher is the kind that actually debates his/her points then debate back and argue against him/her. If the teacher is dogmatic and would give you a bad grade for talking back, then either ignore it or talk to another teacher.

Umm imagine the people that have to endure it the other way around.

Honestly, I would just ignore it.

You should listen to your teacher.

christians did/do use the bible to justify slavery…thats a fact…

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Personally I don’t see anything wrong with a teacher expressing their beliefs if the students are able to do the same. If you go to a religious school though, then you should inform the administration.

wow, random cheap shot

I’m assuming you’re a conservative, in which case don’t go to a school like Brown because you’ll end up wishing you only had your high school teacher making anti-religious/right comments

Praise the guy for actually thinking for himself.

Convert him to CCism

If it makes you uncomfortable, report it. I would certainly report a religiously-preaching teacher as an anti-religious student, so it’s only fair to do so the other way around. However, as yourself if your teacher is doing it radically or if your teacher is explaining the OTHER side of history. From an objective standpoint - if there is such a thing - your teacher is right. Some Christians DID use the Bible to justify slavery, and the Puritans really DID think bad thoughts could get you in a lot of trouble. Christians really DID kill lots of people in the Crusades. Then the Muslims killed probably twice as many. Until 1947 the Jews were pretty peaceful though. It’s kind of hard to slam the Jews. That’s just history. But other comments may go out of line.
