Teacher or extra AP?

I have a huge predicament. Next year is going to be my senior year, and I have a scheduling issue. I have the option of taking AP Government as an extra AP next year (already taking 4), but this would mean that I would lose a free period and can't have a teacher I want for my AP Lit class. Keep in mind that I took 6 APs this year, and I don't want colleges to think that I'm taking it down a notch. Also, I'm looking at top-tier colleges (i.e. Ivy League), so should I end up taking AP Government or should I keep my current schedule with a great English teacher as opposed to a crappier teacher? Any advice would be helpful, thanks!

I’m not sure I understand what this means.

In any case a somewhat puzzling way of looking at an academic situation … and seeing it as a huge predicament.

I mean that if I take AP Government, I will get a bad teacher for AP Lit instead of the one I would have. Also, it’s probably not that big of a deal, but it’s constantly on my mind.

Will the Lit teacher significantly affect your grade in that class? If not, then take gov, it’s relatively easy compared to other AP classes and should boost your GPA and/or give you an easy 4/5 on the AP test. Calculate your expected GPA in both classes after the first semester. If having the better lit teacher produces a significantly higher GPA, then go for it. Take into account how the workload would affect other grades. If not, then take gov and try to survive the bad lit teacher

I’d go for the preferred teacher so you have an enjoyable and productive year. AP Govt is just an elective and not that important in the scheme of things. Provided you have a challenging program I don’t see it hurting you. Can’t you take something else that interests you in the extra period? Art?

@slick908 I’m not really interested in GPA since my GPA is already pretty high, and workload doesn’t really matter to me.

@BrownParent I’m considering taking Spanish, but there might be some other choices available.

You could always self-study AP gov

@amissy14 There’s not really a point to self-studying AP Gov when I’m a senior.
