I'm in a dilemma since the two teachers I feel would give me the best recommendations are in the social studies department. My AP Euro/ AP Psych and APUSH teacher have both stated that they would give me stellar recommendations with them both having known me for most of my high school career. I'm confident that no other teachers that I've had would write one of a caliber as these two. However, schools like Harvard and Stanford request that recs. come from two different subject areas. Should I get another teacher to write one to show some variety or would I be penalized for having these two?

A math teacher would be a better choice.

any other opinions? they would be much appreciated!

Yes, having two recs from the same subject area will hurt your application IF you don’t have any other recs. If you’re that worried, and you think those two teachers will say different things, get letters from both of them and a letter from a math or science teacher.
