My S is applying to NEC. He reached the page for teacher recs and had a questions - thought I would put it out here. First teacher is his private lesson teacher - so that is a no brainer, BUT he has a couple choices for the second.

His first thought is to list his AP English teacher who has already shown him the recommendation letter he has written. It is outstanding. OR does he put down another music teacher (ie: school jazz ensemble?) who he has approached to write a letter but hasn't seen it.

From the NEC website, it looks like the second letter should be from an academic teacher, not a music teacher. Here is what it says on the website:

Recommendations: Two (2) recommendation letters are required.
1.
Artistic recommendation from your private studio teacher addressing your musical work to date and readiness to study music at a conservatory level. (If your private studio teacher is unable to write a recommendation, please ask another music teacher or ensemble leader.)

2.
Academic recommendation from a non-music teacher addressing your writing and cognitive abilities.

Yeah, I made the mistake of putting 2 music teachers and I can’t go back and change it… I’ve e-mailed them to see if I can have an additional (academic) letter mailed. I cannot believe that they only have those instructions listen on their website, not on the application. I read the instructions months ago but completely forgot until looking at it again last night.
So, make sure one is academic.
