I know I must get the number of reccomendations a college asks for from a teacher I've had within the past year when I apply senior year. However, I feel like I should really include one from the teacher I had sophomore year. Not only did I do really well in that class, but he also is the advisor to the school volunteer organization I found. I feel like a reccomendation from this teacher would be a great contribution to my application in addition to the other reccs. Suggestions?

Unless a college specifically states that you must get LORs from jr or sr year teachers, then you can ask any teacher you like. Jr year is generally recommended as the teacher knew you the full year in higher level courses. However, most important, within the LOR requirements, is that you get the strongest LOR possible.

Both of my kids submitted LORs from soph yr teachers that they had taken an AP course from and with whom they had a strong relationship.
