teacher recommandations dilemma...please help!!

hey, guys. so, this teacher i had sophomore year for ap us history, whom i lovedd, retired at the end of last year, & is coming in tomorrow specifically to collect our questionnaire stuff so he can write our letters. but the more i've been thinking about this, the more i';m not so sure it's a good idea. i mean, i had him 2 years ago, & i don't think i was a particularly 'stand-out' student, even though i think he likes me. but...as far as grades & class participation & everything goes...i think i may only have been pretty average. he agreed to write the letter before school ended, but now i'm having second thoughts about handing my stuff to him tomorrow!

my only other option for a 'humanities' recc. would be my h. english teacher who i've only had since sept. 10th. i think he likes me, but we haven't had any hugely formal assessment yet, just small quizzes which i do fine on, & our class is HUGE, so it's been kind of hard to stand out.

i only have a few hours to decide, basically. & if i back out on the first guy, & the second guy doesn't agree to write me a letter, i';m screwed. HELP.

Even if you didn’t stand out significantly in your AP US class, asking a recommendation from a teacher you’ve only had in senior year is usually only done as a last resort. Even if you didn’t stand out, if he likes you, he might be able to talk about some of your character. If he agreed, I would go and ask him. You’ll have a better shot with him.

but assuming my english teacher might be able to write a more personable recc…plus, i know my apush teacher will have to write one for about 30 kids…
would it be looked down upon to get a senior year teacher?
& how much time do we have anyways, before they need to submit the recc?
