Today we had a College Book Awards celebration thing, and my English teacher from last year wrote a glowing introduction about me - one of those "best of my career" types. It was beautifully written and included examples of my intellectual passion (he said that curiosity didn't even begin to describe me) that I hadn't even remembered. It would be perfect as a recommendation, but I already asked my current English teacher...and I don't think colleges would care to see two recommendations from the same subject.

I really really want to ask the "best of my career" teacher to write my teacher recs, but I already asked my current teacher. So what should I do?

Help please!!

if you don't want to hurt the original english teacher's feelings, then ask that he/she give the rec to you because you want to mail it along with your app directly to your school together (a lot of people did that anyway b/c they wanted to make sure that everything was received by the colleges). Then just don't use it, and ask for the other english teacher you want to write a rec. This way you get what you want, and no one knows the wiser. Although it is kinda mean to make the first teacher spend time writing a rec and then not use it...

You could also hope that the first teacher forgot that you asked for one...

I've thought of doing that, wannabazn, but unfort, my teacher will never give me the rec. :(

Any other suggestions?

just send both recommendations, i don't see the problem...

I don't think that colleges would want two recommendations from teachers both teaching English...isn't that a little redundant?

I don't even think that the two teachers would consent to both writing a recommendation. So I guess I'm trying to find a way to tell the first teacher that I would prefer a rec for the second - if that's the best thing to do...

just send the first english rec's to one or two schools, and the good one to the rest...

wait while we are on the subject of teacher recs i have a question and don't feel like making a new thread. my question: let's say you are applying to 20 colleges do you actually have to have your teacher write the recommendation all 20 times or can you just photocopy the original 19 times so he only has to write one recommendation?

Shazilla,
I handled it by using the Common App as much as possible, so they could use the same form, etc. I applied to 7 schools and had one teacher do 4-5, another do 4-5, and another do 1. They don't mind as long as you're organized....they can use the same one and just change the school name at the top.

Do you usually send the recs out yourself? I was under the impression that THEY send it out. My Eng teacher taht I had already asked for rec was very clear about that...
