Teacher Recommendation not received?

I checked the portal for my Maryland application, and it says that it hasn't received my teacher's recommendation. I was just wondering if a teacher recommendation is required to be admitted because I'm 99% sure I'd be admitted otherwise (based on my grades) and I'm starting to get worried because I haven't heard back yet.

Yes! From what I know it’s required. Submit it as soon as you can.

I would suggest checking with the teacher again. At one school, my son needed to submit 3 teacher rec’s and one teacher was really late. He kept telling my son and other students he would do it and making false promises about the timing. He eventually got it done…one day prior to the due date. From talking to other students, he was notorious for this. Some people are just not very organized, and in all fairness, the teachers do get a large number of requests.

Also, another teacher thought she had uploaded the form correctly, but we learned she had made an error and had to re-do it.

Be careful in how you tread here though…obviously you do not want to irritate the person who is writing your recommendation. Just ask very nicely if it was subnmitted. And then follow-up…

Make sure you are looking at the right place on your portal. There are two spots for both recommendations. One is for offline submission (i.e. mail, Naviance, etc) and the other is for online submission (i.e. UMD’s recommendation form). My school submitted mine through Naviance so the online submission ones still say “Not Received”. Make sure to check both before you worry yourself. Never hurts to call admissions and check either.
