Teacher Recommendation Predicament

Which situation is less bad:
2 good recommendations from teachers in the same department (ie. biology teacher + chemistry teacher)
or
1 good recommendation and 1 very mediocre recommendation from teachers in different departments (ie. biology teacher + history teacher)?

Basically, I have really good relationships with my science teachers, but not with any of my other teachers. (The other teachers don't hate me or anything- we just never really clicked.)
It's not good to have recs from teachers of the same department (science) though, so I'm not sure which way to go...

Also, I am applying to engineering schools if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!

A recommendation isn’t about the teacher; it’s about you.

Teachers from very different departments probably could say different things about their experiences with you. That would be helpful.

A mediocre recommendation, however, certainly won’t be helpful. If these really are your options, and the schools don’t specify a subject teacher, then use your strongest recommenders.
