Hi,
I'm having trouble figuring out which teachers to ask for college recommendations. The teacher who knows me best is my newspaper advisor. I've had her as a teacher for all four years, and she will definitely write me an incredible letter. However, a lot of colleges want or require letters of recommendations from core subject teachers. Will it work to ask one or two core teachers AND my advisor, or I should I just stick to core subject teachers?
Thank you!

If the newspaper advisor can share an impression of you that colleges wouldn’t really get from your teachers in core academic classes–and it sounds as if that may be the case–then an additional letter from her will be fine.

But that’s the limit. Don’t throw in another one from your piano teacher, the cross-country coach and your pastor.

An extracurricular teacher is good to have mostly because they know you outside of academics, and if they know you well they can write a lot of qualities about you that an academic teacher might not.
