teacher recommendation

Can someone please explain to me how the teacher recommendation works? Since there's only one form, does that mean only ONE teacher can fill out the form and recommendation letters are written separately? If so, how many letters do you all suggest I have?

If I'm not mistaken, Rice only requires one recommendation (hence the single form) but you can probably send in additional letters if you want. I wouldn't send more than three; personally, I only sent the one.

do they take the common app recommendation form even if you apply online using their application?

At the information session on my campus visit, the admissions officers at Rice specifically said not to send in more recommendation letters than were asked for. They said that they look down on that.

3 years ago my DD used the common app recommendation form, although she applied using the Rice App. She got in..

i really don't understand how this works. does the teacher fill out the form and then type up a separate recommendation letter? and as for the questions on the form, can those answers be typed up on a separate sheet as well?

same goes for the student short answer responses on the app. can those answers be typed up on a separate sheet and if so, what's the maximum number of words do you think i should have?

No they just fill out the form. It is not your standard letter of rec. They don't really want a letter. I did ED last year and my teacher decided to do the form plus a real letter. I didn't ask him too but it worked out pretty well. I also sent in one extra letter because it was so amazing.

now i'm worried because i sent in two teacher recs =(
i went to the rice "open house" weekend a couple of sundays ago and the dean of admissions said in her presentation that it would be fine. however it should be from two different subj (ex. one science teacher and one english teacher)
personally, i thought it was important to send in two because i feel like my senior teachers do not know me that well. i was limited on who i could ask because all of the teachers i have worked with a lot over the years have been from freshman/soph year.

My son sent in three; one math, one English and one for a piano teacher he had been with for 13 years. The school also sent in a whole analysis by his college advisor.
He's now a sophmore at Rice. You don't want to overload them, but if you have different teachers who can show different sides to you, It should be fine.

^ That's good to know. I think I'm sending in 2, one math and one english.

lauras50 , Do you mean he sent in 3 letters or sent in 3 teacher rec forms?

I think 3 teacher rec forms. He never saw them because they were sent in directly, so I'm not sure exactly what they sent in. Since the three sent in letters/forms to a number of schools for him, they may have made them something that would be acceptable at all his schools.

chill out.. Im in Rice as of this year... I sent in 4 rec letters excluding the guidance counselor one...

dont stress out over the paperwork issue... better to have more than less and more importantly, over the limit but good recs is better...
