I'm a rising senior, and I'm thinking about asking one of my sophomore teachers for a college recommendation. I know that Harvard says that the rec should "preferably come from teachers who taught you during the last two years of high school" but none of my teachers I've had during junior year knows me very well, while I've had a great relationship with my sophomore year English teacher. Should I ask my sophomore English teacher for a recommendation?

SS long as they can write authoritatively on you it shouldn't matter.

I actually asked my sophomore English teacher for a recommendation too - she knew me very well and had really laid the foundation for my growth in writing and studying literature. I'm graduating from Harvard in about 16 days, so I don't think it was too much of a problem for me, and shouldn't be for you either. ;)

The other teacher recommendation I got was from my junior year English teacher (if I remember correctly), so if you choose to get a recommendation from a sophomore year teacher, just try to balance it out using the other rec.

I actually got a recommendation from my sophomore teacher and I was accepted. so... you should be fine. =)
