Hi, everyone, I know this is probably like the 290384623780th time someone asked a question similar to this one, but there are certain things I just don't understand.

I'm an international student trying to apply for the US. Now, my school has absolutely NO IDEA about the admission process (because it's not an IB program or anything) so I'm mostly on my own when it comes to figuring out the details.

The questions I want to ask you are:

1) Where do I get the form for recommendations? Is there a universal form for these letters or do I have to find them separately on college/university official websites? Because my teachers probably don't have an online account/e-mail, I will have to send the recommendations by mail and I can't find anything on Common app. regarding these by-mail recommendations.
2) If I do send them by mail, do I need to have some special envelopes? And if I need to have them, where do I get them?

I hope I posted in the right place. Thanks in advance!

Some colleges have forms (their own), others just want letters sent to the admissions office (usually short) so check sites. Not sure, but does common app provide any possible forms? Check there. If via mail, letter needs to identify you by full name you are using on application and also your current school (so they can easily match you to your app file) but nothing special needs to be on envelope, except the correct address and for that you need to check college’s site for address to use (usually the admissions office or whatever the college calls its admission office).

1) On your commonapp under the schoolforms section, you will see a place where you enter your teacher’s email address. Once you do that, an email will be sent to your teacher and they will handle it from there.

2) If you choose to send recs my post, then you have to give your teachers a signed and stamped envelope with the teacher rec forms and then your school is responsible for posting it - you cannot post it from your own mailbox because it will look really sketchy (like you filled out the forms yourself)

I hope this helps. I’m an international as well. If you have any further questions then you can PM me.
