hi all. i am preparing for asking my teachers for a rec and i was wondering, would it be a good idea to prepare a draft letter by myself and give my teacher the option of using that instead of her having to prepare one on her own. i am not going to force her or anything but just give her another option from which she could take some ideas, use the whole thing, or not use it at all. do you think thats a good idea? just wondering because i have not heard of my peers doing that and it seems a little awkward.

thanks..

well i gave my teachers a copy of my resume so they would know what to write about ...but imo i don't think its a good idea because its supposed to be what they think of you + confidential. maybe make a summary of your activites to emphasize your best qualities.

i say, try your idea out and see what happens.

that sounds like a pretty bad idea...and you'll probably come off as really weird to your teacher.

It sounds like you want your teachers to write about certain qualities of yours. What you should do is to make a small list of your qualities and provide an example/situation of how you've demonstrated that quality in that teacher's class. Teachers really appreciate it because it may be hard for them to remember what specifically you did in a class.
