I've just recently looked over all of the schools I'm applying to, and only one of them requires a teacher recommendation. For the other three that don't require one, should I send in a recommendation, or would it be overkill?

Don’t send them.

Do the other three schools recommend the recommendation or did they state that they do not want them explicitly. If your case is the former, I would recommend to send those recommendations. Otherwise, if the schools will not read them (like the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) then don’t send them.

No, it’s certainly not overkill. I suggest sending one recommendation, assuming it’s a good recommendation. With schools that don’t require one, it looks good if you went out of your way to get/send a rec. Also, with most schools that don’t require letters, letters are still recommended, happily accepted, and considered. As long as they don’t say “DO NOT SEND,” it certainly can’t hurt- they will appreciate the initiative, unless of course you send like 3 letters, which is too much.

I applied to three schools that had very brief applications. In addition to their online application, I sent a letter of recommendation and my resume, because most of the things on my resume were not anywhere in the application (not the case with, say, CommonApp, which is more thorough). I’ve been accepted at all three.
