Teacher Recommendations?

(I would think there'd be a section for this... if there is and I missed it, tell me)

So basically, I've heard you want 2 recommendations: 1 from a math or science teacher, another from a humanities teacher. I'm getting one from my math teacher, but I need help picking my humanities teacher rec. Here are my options:

Mr. X: I had him for Humanities (English elective, used to be honors but now isn't, but it's probably more respectable than other electives) for 1 semester this year (11th grade). I got a low A, but there were a few assignments that I turned in late so it probably didn't look good. But I talk to him a lot just for fun. I like him and he likes me, but I'm not sure how he thinks of me academically. Like I said, I turned in a few assignments late and got a low A, but I participated a lot despite being friends with the kids who never pay attention.

Mrs. Y: I had her for Spanish 1 in 9th grade and 3H this year, so that's 2 years (as opposed to 1 semester for Mr. X). She's really nice, but I don't have a personal relationship with her like Mr. X because I'm too intimidated to hold a legitimate conversation in Spanish. I have a good A in the class right now (in Spanish 1 I was really good compared to other people), and she acknowledges that I'm really good at writing and reading in Spanish, but she probably also knows I can't speak well. I suck at listening and speaking, but I can generally make sense of at least what's going on. But like I said, I don't just talk to her much. But I'm pretty sure she likes me and thinks I'm overall good at Spanish. Also, I'm dropping down to Spanish 4 next year (as opposed to AP) because I have 5 other APs, so I figure this might make up for dropping down...? Or is it going to hurt me, because Mrs X knows I'm dropping down?

Anyways, which do you think I should get?

Also, do some colleges accept 2 math/science recs? Because I'm doing really well in Physics H right now. The colleges I'm interested in now are: MIT, Cornell, UPenn, U Michigan, CMU, the UCs, Stanford, RPI and a few more (yeah, I need to narrow it)

So could I get my physics teacher to give me a rec instead? Or do these colleges require a humanities rec?

Also my physics teacher is foreign, and although she speaks with better grammar than most foreigners I've met, her grammar is bad enough that I'm a bit hesitant to get a rec from her. But I'm a top student in that class so... I don't know. So can I get a rec from her for any of these colleges, and should I?

Sorry, that's a lot of info for such a small question. Thanks for answering!

I have to admit that I didn’t read through what you wrote. Way too much information.

It sounds like you’re trying to guess what they would say about you. But there is a better way. Ask them!

Yes, just ask them! It is a good practice to ask a teacher whether they can write a strong rec for you. Then you know. No guessing. If they say yes then you have your rec. If they say no, you thank them and move on.
