teacher recommendations...

How many teacher recommendations do they expect you to have? I know cmu is willing to accept just one, but is it to my advantage if i provide a second? If my first teacher rec is in mathematics (and i'm applying for engineering..), is it better if my second teacher rec is in science, or something like language arts?

My advice would be to go with the teacher that will be able to give you the best recommendation. In my opinion the best thing to do with the essays & teacher recommendation is to write essays showing your dedication and why you are unique and then get teacher recommendations to corrobate that. Certainly for a prospective engineer, I'd advise having at least 1 math/science recommendation, but since your first one is already a math one, I'd advise getting one from the teacher who can give you the best recommendation.

Hope this helps.

so i should definitely get a second teacher rec?

Hey princessleia, what school(s) are you planning to apply to within CMU? I believe different schools would have different requirements.

My advice would be that even if your school only requires one teacher recommendation, still send in other ones as long as you think it will add something to your application. For example, even if your first recommendation is very good, another teacher might be able to present you in a different light than that one.
