Teacher Recs and Essays.....

I was just wondering two quick things:

What happens if a teacher writing you a rec sends in her letter before u submit your application?

How long is the usual common app essay? Min? Max? My teacher told me no more then 500 words and that didn’t sound accuarate.

thanks.

Sorry I can't answer the first question, but I can answer the second. Your teacher is right! The minimum for common app is 250 words, but there is no maximum. That doesn't mean that you should go write a novel though. Remember that the people reading your application have to meet quotas of about 300 applications a day at most Ivy Leagues. (Sometimes more at competitive small schools!) They don't have time to read a long essay. They want a short interesting one that doesn't overuse advanced vocabulary. To many applicants use a Thesaurus while writing their applications, and it shows. Admissions wants to see your personality and style of writing. Don't make it sound like you're the son of rich uncle pennybags. (I just did this, and my guidance counselor told me to go back and make it sound more "normal.")

i can answer your first question:

if the teacher's recommendation letter gets there before you even submit your application, the college will make a file for you.

BTW, most of the colleges you are applying to already have a file for you. Not only are you on their mailing list, but they also have your SAT/ACT scores already filed!

well i hvent sent in my sat scores or anyhting yet. I geuss that means ur should send in test scores whenvever you want?
