What am I supposed to do for teacher recs? I asked two teachers and they said that they would write them, now do I print something off from the Common App or do I just give them addressed envelopes and stamps? I'm really confused, any help would help!

In my school we had a fairly standard procedure (thankfully our teachers actually TOLD US in advance what they wanted us to do) but it might vary by school. We were told to give them a stamped and addressed envelope, as well as a resume / brag sheet. I don’t remember there being anything to print off the Common App (I could be wrong) but some of my other schools required extra pages to be filled out by the recommender, in which case I printed out those pages and handed them to the teacher as well.

I’d also stop by some time after you do this (two weeks? three? four? depends on your deadlines) and maybe ask how the recommendation is going…it depends on the teacher, of course; some of my teachers made it a policy to have them done in two weeks, while I had to hound another teacher for two months.

Again, it might vary by school and by teacher, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with handing them an envelope + resume.

Alright thanks. I already filled out a brag sheet sorta thing and gave it to the teacher that wanted it. So would addressed envelopes probably be all that I will need then? I’ll ask my GC when I see him sometime this month, but because I’m applying ED I want to make sure my teachers have time to write the recs.

For Common App schools, your teachers have the option of submitting them either online or via snail-mail. Ask your teachers which method they’d prefer. If your teacher wants to submit them online, you’ll need to invite them via the Common App (in the School Forms section). If your teacher wants to mail them, you’ll need to print out the Teacher Evaluation forms from the Common App website and provide them with stamped and addressed envelopes for each school to which you’re applying.

For schools that aren’t on the Common App, check to see whether there’s an option for online submission. If there’s not, print out forms and provide stamped and addressed envelopes. If there is and your teacher would prefer online submission, follow whatever steps are outlined for giving your teacher access to the online system.

When in doubt, ask your teachers how they’d like something done. Every teacher does the recommendation process a bit differently.
