I'm in a little bit of a dilemma...
I have two teachers who agreed to write me recs. I had one teacher my freshman year, kept pretty good contact, had him again junior year. The other teacher is new. The teacher I know for three years has piles and piles of requests for recommendation letters, so he'll be swamped. While all this is going on, a third teacher hinted that he would love to write me a recommendation letter. How much weight would it add to a recommendation if the teacher knows you for a longer period of time?

According to my guidance office, a lot. My school forbids us to go ask our freshman year or senior year teachers for recs. (We turn in our rec forms at the end of Junior year!) This way, the teacher that gives the rec is able to accurately recollect your performance and has known you longer.

The teacher you had again junior year is a good choice. Asking a teacher who hasn't even had you in class is a bad idea.

Have the teacher who WANTS to write you a rec do the second one.
