Teacher recs

Do teachers usually send in the recs themselves? Do you ever get to see what they wrote, and what if you're applying to 10 schools, then does the teacher still send them in, or would they give them to you and tell you to make copies?

at my school the teachers make the copies themselves and seal them. but the recs are given back to be sent along with the app because of mailing costs! lol
i'm not in the us btw

Most colleges have a form that the teacher fills out in addition to writing a letter. There's a place on the form for you to sign to waive your rights under FERPA to read the recommendation. It's recommended that you waive your right (sign the form before you give it to teachers) so that the college gets a more candid evaluation of you. Teachers will normally seal their recommendation and the form and either mail it out themselves, return it to you to mail out, or give it to your guidance couselor or whoever handles college applications at your school. Nowadays, most recommendation are written on the computer, so making an extra two (or ten) copies later on down the road isn't a problem. There are always exceptions to the norm - some teachers give students the recommendations to proofread or just to have a copy of. There have even been instances when teachers have asked students to write a recommendation and just have the teacher edit and sign it...
