So my school uses Naviance, and I updated my list on the common app, but not on Naviance because I was told by my guidance counselor that I had until November 13 to do so.The issue is… I’m applying early to Harvard, so (I don’t know if this is standard practice or not) my teacher sent my recommendation to Harvard AND every other school on Naviance! I’m freaking out because he sent it to a school I decided not to apply to and another school I was debating whether to change… plus there’s another school I haven’t even added in yet! I haven’t yet had a chance to ask my guidance counselor what I should do, but just in case there’s something I should do immediately (especially about the school I decided not to apply to getting my recommendation), I decided to ask on here… help?
It won’t matter – there are no ramifications. At the school you no longer intend to apply, it’ll simply sit there, awaiting your never to be seen application.
Heck, if all works out and you get accepted to H, you can eschew every other application completely, right?
This is nothing
No problem if he sent it someplace where you aren’t applying – what are they going to do – accept you?
If you need schools added, you will tell either the teacher or your GC once you are sure of your list (it depends on how your school uses Naviance – our school requires the GC office to release the letters to the schools, I think the GC likes to review them after some unfortunate past incidents with poorly written letters in the past). Don’t stress about this.
Thanks guys!! LOL true guess it doesn’t matter if they get the recommendation! This makes me a lot less worried… I just didn’t want to hassle my teacher asking him to send it to another school, but I guess it isn’t that big a deal
You need to have them sent everyplace you are applying, that is for sure. At the school you don’t apply to, it will just sit as part of an incomplete application, and likely nothing will come of it. The worst case is that they check in with you or your GC to see if you mean to complete the application, but they probably won’t do that, so don’t worry about it. Onward to the real applications!
@intparent yup, I just asked my GC today and she said pretty much the same thing you all were saying
thanks!!
