Hey guys sooo I just found out that the letter of recommendation that was sent via Common App by my wonderfully awesome AP Art Teacher used the wrong name in the letter!
The letter was absolutely beautiful and heart warming (I actually shed a tear) but the problem is it started with “Dear Princeton” and that letter was sent to Harvard, Duke, NYU, Dartmouth and Stanford! In addition to this, somewhere along the essay she also wrote Stanford (I know it’s kinda funny)
Will this hurt my admissions chances to these schools? I mean, it can’t be that bad since they know that I wasn’t the one that sent it. But I know colleges get a bit peeved when they see misnames. If that’s the case, will they just discard my letter from her? I really hope not because this one was amazing and really exemplified my love for sculpture.
Be that as it may, I sent her a list of the schools and their contact EMAIL and told her to email each one with the correct names. Is that a good idea? will they even consider via email? or must I do old fashioned mailing?
Oh my goodness, the same thing nearly happened to my S. Fortunately, he was getting close to the EA deadline so the letter was emailed to his guidance counselor on a Word document, to be included with the transcript. The gc caught the mistake & it was fixed. This has to be a common problem. It’s one thing when the student makes the mistake but some of those poor AP teachers are probably writing many many letters. I’m sure the colleges make allowances for it.
Yeah well luckily my teacher sent an email to every school that was misnamed and sent them an apology letter explaining and the proper letter. Hopefully that will fix it.
I plan to call them during office hours tomorrow to confirm if this can be done.
