Hi! So basically I ended with a 92.7 in one of my classes this semester and asked my teacher to round up and he said that he couldn’t, but he did for a friend of mine with a 92.4 and another with an 86.8 last term… Not sure if I should just let it go and take the A- or keep trying to get it rounded up since he rounded up for other students (I have a screenshot of the 86.8 to a B+ instead of a B)
Your teacher refused. You say that other students had their grades rounded up, but you don’t know why. There could have been good reasons such as a grading error on a test!. I understand you are disappointed, but teachers are not required or even expected to improve grades by student request. You asked and got an answer so I expect dropping it.
I understand where you’re coming from but I actually do know why he rounded up in both cases. Both students asked in the same manner that I did and had their grades changed in powerschool where the percentage stayed the same but the actual letter grade itself was changed. Not because of a grading error on a test etc. Both students are good friends of mine and said that their grade on its own was not changed, just the letter. Basically, the 92.4 counted as an A instead of an A- and the B counted as a B+ with an 86.8 percent.
It’s based on the teachers perception of you. You were close to the A, but your teacher might not have felt like you deserved it. The person with the 92.4 might have put in more effort or participated more.
If you have a 92.7 and got an A- and another student has a 92.4 and has an A, that’s not rounding. It’s giving a lower grade for a higher percentage. You might want to speak with him and verify that it’s true. If it is, chat with your guidance counselor and ask if your GPA is calculated using the numbers or letters.
