Teachers Hate Me

Okay, ever since like elementary school, teachers have never really liked me even when I try to suck up and act nice in class (which I usually don't). If I ask a lot of questions, I come off as annoying. If I don't ask many questions and just sit and listen, I come off as lazy and too uptight. Whenever I want to participate in a class discussion, I come off as argumentative. My teacher mentioned some document in my history class and I asked if it was a book and she then proceeded to tell my class and the next that I was not smart. This is a common pattern and I am really worried about what will happen when I have to ask for recommendations next year. I definitely have above average intelligence and I do most of my homework and get pretty good grades yet slackers who come to school high are liked better by teachers than I am. How do I get teachers to like me?

Don’t just be a student, be a person that the teacher knows and engages with on topics that don’t even have to be related to schoolwork.

There’s probably something about your demeanor that gets under teachers’ skins. Start by fixing that.

Maybe I should just go up to my teachers and whinily (is that a word) cry “WHY DON’T YOU LIKE ME” and then see what they say.

Um, they would prolly brush you off and send you to the school safety advocate if you did that…

^you didn’t sense my sarcasm…

lol, yeah, it sounded pretty serious to me…my bad

It’s quite possible that there’s something about your personality that comes off as annoying. I think a lot of us have had at least one student like you in one of their classes. It’s one thing to be smart and ask a lot of questions, but it’s another thing to question the teacher and to ask questions that have no relevance to the discussion. I could be wrong. I apologize if I am.

I thinkkk you’re thinking too hard about it! Don’t be too conscious of teachers’ opinions; come into the classroom with the goal of learning, and you’ll be fine. :)
