I have started the process for the college application, I am a junior. I went to the teachers to ask for the recommendations, they agreed, gave them my academic resume and then they asked me two things, to which I didn’t have the answer for. All three teachers asked: 1) Time frame by when you need the recommendations? 2) Should they give it to me or send directly?
What should I tell them?
Also, I know it might sound silly, do I need to ask for multiple copies of the same recommendation since I am planning to apply to at least 10 different colleges?
Well, when does the university want it? Also, I am not sure but in many cases, it is not allowed for you to see the recommendation itself (to prevent any issues should the teacher write negatively)
Everything is done electronically, either through the Common App or the Coalition app or the school-specific app.
When you have your list of colleges, and know if you are applying early anywhere (you should know this by August), give your teachers a list of deadline.
Schools, though not technically required, want you to waive FERPA, saying you didn’t see the LOR. On the Common App (or coalition too, whichever), on the LOR section you waive FERPA then you add your recommender, usually be email.
Thanks!
