Hi all,
I’m entering college this fall and would like to offer yoga classes on campus. I’ve been teaching for about a year in my hometown, and would like to keep my teaching skills strong/earn some cash while I’m in school. I wouldn’t charge anywhere near as much as a drop-in class at a formal studio, maybe $5-10. However, the college I’m attending has a large offering of extracurricular fitness classes (including yoga) and I am worried that the administration would think that student-led classes would take away from the college-sponsored class enrollment.
Has anyone done this (or something similar) with success? I’d love to hear about it - thanks in advance!!
Do you know who is currently teaching the classes? At a lot of schools students do teach these classes. But the school would likely pay you and set the class fee, versus you collecting money directly. You should contact the fitness center or the student programming department and ask about it.
Why not get a job in the current yoga teaching outfit? Frankly the idea that think you just do some ad hoc class means you haven’t done any research into issues like facilities, insurance, liability, your training qualifications, etc etc.

I’ll look into that, thank you! I didn’t know that students could teach those classes. That info is not readily available on my school’s website, but I’m sure I can talk with someone in person once I’m there.
@Sybylla
I’ve been teaching for a year and am about to complete my 200 hour certification, and insurance and liability were covered in detail in my training program. I came to cc to ask specifically about the relationship of a private on-campus class to one offered by the college, since I only have experience teaching in private studios. Frankly, I’m not sure why you felt the need to post something so judgmental and rude.
