How are team awards looked upon? For example, Science Bowl is a team-competition, for example, if the team makes it to National level, will the whole team count it as an award, even if 1 person carries the team?
“will the whole team count it as an award, even if 1 person carries the team”
This connotes something very unsavory. Don’t even go there. YES, the entire team gets to list the award. Are you proposing something different? Don’t. Just drop it.
Or you’ll come off sounding like a JERK.
Elsewhere you mentioned how you started this club and saw it to success. Great. Now drop the entitled attitude about seeking honors and recognition from everyone else. It’s oily.
“Yes, Mr. Interviewer. Our quote-unquote TEAM won the championship. But I really carried the team on my back and I even have an issue that they have the audacity to list the championship on their resumes b/c clearly, I should receive special honor. You know, it’s only fair. As a matter of fact, I demanded to see their their college apps to ensure they included my name on the tag line as the club captain/founder.”
What of a larger team, say a dance squad of 20-30 kids? Personally I wouldn’t list that except maybe as “member of prize-winning dance team” but what’s the general take on that sort of thing? My sense was that only individual honors should be listed.
There’s nothing wrong with listing team awards. My kiddo was involved in 8 seasons of varsity sports. Along w/personal awards (all district, all state, etc) she definitely listed her team’s achievements. It shows a level of sophistication – that on the whole, doesn’t mean everything – but says it wasn’t just a hobby.
Are you saying the 2nd string linebacker of the state champion football team shouldn’t list this?
Varsity FB: 10-12. Div 2 State Champion: 11
Of course he/she should list it as long as it’s not embellished. Or narcissistic by diminishing the team as the OP proposes.
It makes sense to me as a way to characterize the seriousness of an activity on the activities list or a resume. Would you list it under honors & awards, though? I’d save that for MVP or something like that. Curious though. Simply never occurred to me – seems like a stretch.
