I was recently offered a post as team manager of my school's wrestling team and would like to know how it would look as an EC? Although I think it's a good opportunity and could turn into a lot of fun, it is also a huge time commitment and I don't want to do it and end up having little to show for it. My other ECs are mainly speech/debate related things like model UN and quite a bit of volunteering. My resume really lacks in athletics, could this perhaps make up for that?

Thanks so much for any replies in advance, I really appreciate it! :)

I agree it would be a good EC, but don’t do it just to boost your college chances. Do it if you want to do it, not in order to ad a sport to your resume.

The point to listing ECs is to explain what you do with your time. If managing a team is something you enjoy doing, then do it … and by all means, list it. A team manager has a lot of responsibility, so if you have to explain what you do, be sure to focus on that.

Think about it … just being on a sports team doesn’t make you a better student. Being in a club doesn’t make you a better student. These are just things you do. You could fill your time riding horses or training dogs. You could fill your time making music with your band. You could fill your time taking care of your grandmother who has Alzheimers or your little brother while your parents work. You could fill your time drawing or doing woodwork. The point is, how do you fill your time? What do you enjoy doing?
