Teansfering without submitting test scores, But with enough credits?

Okay. I am struggling big time. I am currently a college freshman attending a cc and I am looking to transfer to a 4 year college. Here is the problem. I never took the SAT’s or ACT’s in high school (I was home schooled and it was not required. My high school GPA was 3.9). That is why i am at a community college because I procrastinated and didn’t take the tests so I figured I can just transfer after some time in community college. I know that most colleges, if you have a certain amount of college credits you can transfer without having to submit the SAT’s or ACT’s. I would like to transfer after my freshman year at cc and by the end of the second semester I would have enough credits to transfer to the college I want without the SAT or ACT. My question is, if after first semester I send the college(s) my application and college transcript AND what classes I plan to take next semester ( and however many credits it’ll be) would they still need an SAT or ACT test score? As long as they saw I would have enough credits to not require to submit tests? I do know I would be able to after two years but I do not want to spend another year a community college. (I am / did make sure my credits would transfer over to the college I would like to attend, so that should not be a problem.)

I hope you all get what Im trying to say. Ive been trying to figure all of this out so I do not miss any deadlines or anything. PS: I planned on asking this question on here and after I would contact the college directly.

Thank you all for your help!!

It depends on the requirements of the colleges you wish to transfer to.

For example, California public universities do not require anything from high school, including SAT or ACT scores, for junior-level transfers (although some things may be optionally submitted for some base-level requirements). But other schools may require high school stuff for all transfers.

If you intend to transfer below the junior level, it is much more likely that you will need high school stuff, including SAT or ACT scores.

Colleges vary on requirements for test scores when trying to transfer. Many of your high ranked colleges require them regardless of when you try to transfer. A large number of colleges require them if attempting to transfer into sophomore year but do not require them if transfering into junior year. The issue you face in the situation of trying to transfer into beginning of sophomore year is that the application for transfer and the admission decision usually occur before your second semester freshman year is finished and thus the college has only your first semester college grades to rely on, and they want test scores and high school record because they do not consider one semester of college grades to be sufficient to evaluate your application.

In any event, you have to check each college to which you are considering applying. Even when a college usually requires test scores to transfer into sophomore year, it might have an exception for those who have never taken the SAT or ACT. Also, there are a number of colleges that do not require test scores even from freshman applicants.

Obviously, one step to consider that would make you eligible to apply to a lot more colleges for transfer into sophomore year is to take the SAT or ACT.

Agreed, you need to check the requirements of any school you are considering. Many schools (not all as noted above) do want standardized tests and HS records for people transferring after freshman year as there is not much of a college track record.

If you DO decide to take the SAT or ACT then you need to call the four year college to see if they will accept it. Both tests were designed for HSers and I have read that some/many schools won’t accept scores from college. You may be able to have that waived since you are not doing it to try for a scholarship but to meet some min admission requirements. But call to check.
