*tears*

So I did really bad on my SATIIs. Really bad.

{ Math2: 720 & Lit: 660 } <-- tear

My ACT is fine (34), and the rest of my app is well rounded/competitive, but is it even worth applying anymore? One more thing, and I know this sounds bad/annoying, but will that fact that I am Hispanic perhaps make my bad scores more permissible?

Absolutely, you fool! First of all, Northwestern only recommends scores for SAT II so you aren’t required to send them and if you do they say the only look at them in addition to you application in a way that they will either bring your application up or have no effect.

Regardless, you need to understand that one thing doesn’t make or break an application, so OF COURSE it is still “worth applying,” especially with a good ACT score like you have.

Yeah I suppose I’m still going to apply - I didn’t know NW only recommended them, that’s good. sigh of relief

NU (not NW ;)) recommends that you take 3 SAT II’s, but they do admit students who submit no SAT II scores. Those scores are OK to submit. Your ACT score is outstanding. Congratulations!

Plus you have urm status in your favor. Best of luck, maybe I’ll see you next fall. Haha im so nervous about the whole application process.

Lit is a really hard one; I’ve been told to never take it.

80 pts away - only a couple questions on the test probably - from a perfect score in math and there are tears?

great results. typical CC sample.

I had two SAT II tests in the 600s back in the day (admissions standards haven’t changed much over the last few years though). I still got admitted :p.

On CC there are two extremes. Kids who don’t know jack about admissions and seriously think they’re going to get a full scholarship to a top 20 school or that they have a shot at Harvard with a 3.6 2100 and no interesting hobbies. Or people have this idea that you have to be a “perfect” applicant to get admitted to any top school. All SAT scores over 700. GPA no lower than a 3.8 (and if it’s a 3.8 you better have been taking the hardest possible classes). X number of ECs. Blahdeblah.

Where the Heck is the middle ground?

The secret truth is, in general people on CC HEAVILY overestimate the difficulty of gaining admission to selective schools. YES it is hard. YES there is an element of “crapshoot.” But you don’t have to be chiseled out of gold to get into a good college. Calm down. In a way overestimating is good…you don’t get your hopes up. But I have seen applicants with not perfect grades, “regular” ECs, and gasp some 600s on their SATs get into Northwestern, Cornell, and a variety of other top schools.

P.S. Lit was sooooo easy
(But damn those other two)
