Tech and National Merit

Anyone know how much true interest Tech displays in getting NMF's to enroll? Is Tech a good option for NMF's? Why or why not.

I believe that Texas Tech still offers free OOS tuition to NMF. Seems like they still like Finalists!

Brakettallens, Tech loves National Merit Scholars. Check out Tech’s Honors College at http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/</a> and you’ll see what I mean. Along with the NMF scholarship opportunities for Tech in general, the Honors College offers accelerated admission to Tech’s Medical School; loads of undergraduate research opportunities with Tech professors, smaller classes in Honors courses, etc. Every college/university loves to have NMS scholars. You will need to research which schools offer the goodies that line up with your interests. Tech has plenty to offer National Merit Scholars but only you can answer whether Tech’s offerings line up with your interests.

I do know about 6 national merit scholars that live with me in the honors dorm, but to my understanding Texas Tech no longer offers specific scholarships for them. There is automatic acceptance to the honors college for NMS, National Hispanic Scholars, Terry Scholars, and IB diploma recipients.

There is no specific national merit scholarship, but if you are a NMS you have great chances of getting other university scholarships. NMS also get automatic acceptance to the Tech Honors College, which is a great opportunity that one should take advantage of.

I talked to the people at National Merit and Tech has a signed contract with National Merit agreeing to give between 750 and 2000 per year to Finalists who list Tech as their first choice!
