Hey guys, I have one last question before the senior year of next year. I went through this year in Drama 1 to see if I would like it and I do and think I will major in Theatre Arts/ Acting and I was wondering since I am taking Drama 2 to take Tech Theater as well because I can learn the elements that male the performances effective in Tech Theater and apply in Drama 2 and Theatre Arts in College. The only class I can replace it with is Marine Bio, I will have taken all the three sciences(Bio, Chem, and Physics). Also, all the schools I researched only require three years of science. SO should I replace tech with marine bio or keep it is. Here’s my schedule:
Chorale(before school)
Concert Choir(before school)
Advanced British Lit
Stats
AP Computer Science A
Drama 2
Vocal Jazz Men’s Ensemble
TA
Marine Bio or Tech Theater
Provided you meet your high school’s graduation requirements for science, Tech Theater is the better choice for you. The sooner you start to get a handle on that aspect of theater, the better.
Also, if you have good tech skills, you will have a lot more options in the industry. Happykid and her tech/design pals only ever had theater jobs while in college. The acting majors all worked as cashiers at Trader Joe’s. Not that a job at TJ’s is a bad thing, but the techies’ paid gigs worked well around their college production schedules, and at better hourly rates than most retail jobs.
In that case, tech theater is a better choice for you.
