Did anyone hear about that new years party in scarsdale ny? What do you guys think about it. Its been all over the new york area news.

Are you referring to this: " In September, in Scarsdale, up to 200 students arrived drunk at the homecoming dance. Several were taken to the hospital." ?

That is a very extreme situation, you know. I don't think it's representative of the majority of the high school population. Now, that doesn't leave the majority with much better drinking habits. I find teenage drinking (except in extreme moderation) to be downright revolting. I don't drink at all yet, but I can understand why someone might. I simply cannot fathom the quantities of alcohol other students at my school drink (and yes, I know literally how much). It's not alcoholism that scares me most, it's binge drinking.

nope refering to new years.

maybe if you posted an article or more information to what you're referring to, we'd be able to comment.

200 drunk kids at homecoming...that's how homecoming ALWAYS is here.

listen I dont know if y'all folk live in a bubble or not but the reality is that a lot of high school students drink. i think the facts are actually much larger than are being reported. and the notion that rich suburbs generally abusing more alcohol than urban areas I would agree with wholeheartedly. from the parties I've been to I will certainly attest to the facts documented in the article.

Something like 75% of seniors at my high school self-reported (in an anonymous survey) to have drank in the past 30 days.

i recommend flip cup....but thats just me

For those that knock teenage drinking, I suggest they actually drink before they start flapping their lips. Theres nothing more stupid than someone who whines about people drinking, when they have never done it. If that person does it a couple times, they would realize that people do it to have a good time.( Im not talking about drinking 18+ beers and vomiting all night) Im talking about drinking 6-12 and having a good time. Its fun.

lock-flip cup is a blast. i like kings a lot too, and of course, beer pong.

justforgetme-- u meant strip beer pong, right? haha

I wonder which one is the majority: Highschoolers who drink, or highschoolers who don't drink

At most places it is probably the latter.

thedude3 I disagree. To me, that's like saying people shouldn't claim someone should be a virgin until they've had sex. You don't have to drink to know that people do it to have a good time. I personally don't drink and I understand what the appeal is as well as is possible for one who doesn't drink. (I just think it tastes bad) People who oppose it oppose it for reasons that they can know without ever having tried it like saying it tastes bad (don't need to get drunk to know that), it could kill brain cells, they don't want to risk losing control and/or not remembering what happened the next day, even to things as extreme as worrying about date/acquaintance rape. I don't think that people who drink or dumb or bad people. I think it's their choice. Kids today know what the risks are. It's just not something that really appeals to me. Different people find different things fun. Someone might love to play sports, whereas someone else might think shopping is really fun. To the girl who loves to shop, she might know that she wouldn't love football without ever trying it. The only time you can say that non-drinkers don't know what they are talking about is if they claim that there's no benefit to drinking, that drinking does nothing good. It clearly does or no one would do it. If they think the cost is greater than the benefit, that's their decision and you just have to respect it.

Northwestlover-At my school, like I said, it's the former (at least according to self-reporting in the anonymous survey).

malgirl-while you bring up some valid points, your virginity analogy is flawed. More accurate would be to say that "sex is no fun" when you've never yourself had sex.

People who don't drink usually aren't saying they don't think other people don't find it fun. They might say they don't think it would be fun for themself, but I don't think I've ever met anyone who thinks that drinking isn't fun for anybody. It seems to be more of a feeling that drinking does more harm than good, that the fun you might have isn't worth it for whatever reason. My point with the virginity issue was just that if someone were to start drinking regularly they'd kinda be a hypocrite to say that one shouldn't... It's not quite the same thing because virginity is a one time thing, but I hope you get my point.

Personally I always ask myself, if I need to drink in order to have fun, then really how much fun could it be... For the record, I have nothing really against alcohol, and yeah I do occasionally drink, however when I do I typically am not trying to get drunk.
