Teen sues over Confederate flag prom dress

LEXINGTON, Ky. A teenager is suing her eastern Kentucky school district for barring her from the prom for wearing a red dress styled as a large Confederate flag.

School officials called Jacqueline Duty's homemade dress too controversial and kept her out of Russell High School's May 1 prom.

Duty's federal lawsuit claims the Russell Independent Board of Education violated her First Amendment right to free speech and her right to celebrate her heritage. She also is suing for defamation, false imprisonment and assault.

"Her only dance for her senior prom was on the sidewalk to a song playing on the radio," said her lawyer, Earl-Ray Neal....

Southern heritage? Last time I checked Kentucky was never officially in the Confederacy. Seems to me that all she wanted to do was intentionally stir up controversy to get her 15 minutes in the spotlight.

"Reason: delete racist slur. Adhere to copyright laws"

!!! Since when was the word "redneck" racist??? I am NOT racist, and I really don't appreciate that. Never in my life have I said anything remotely racist. People who run around toting the confederate flag are the racists here, not me. OK, sorry if I violated TOS agreements, but seriously....

What is next - they going to ban Nascar from TV? I hope that the school officials realize that they have just added fuel to the fire.
In a similar incident - but on a big time scale, the rebel flag from the top of the state house in Columbia, SC was ordered to be removed. In a compromise, the allowed it to be moved from top of the statehouse (where nobody was going to notice it) to the front lawn (right in your face..) this whole thing is hilarious

1) There's an 80% chance she is not "race diversity friendly"
2) There's a small chance she was out for money
3) The dress by itself, at first look, would not be linked to the CF
4) If she'd kept her mouth shut the dress would have passed for a sloppy, insignificant dress and she would have been able to wear it.
