My d got a call from a current OSU student. They asked for major interested in, grades and scores, extracurriculars.
They also asked which other schools she’s interested in.
Is this common?

Ohio would be alot farther than instate school and we would need more than the buckeye scholarship to be able to afford it.

It is very common for applicants, prospective applicants, and admitted students to get calls from current students. I believe the only schools my D got calls from when she was still a prospective applicant were either in-state or schools she had contacted herself.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, she is a prospective student and she might have given them the info while on a college fair. She was looking for schools instate and nearby with pharmacy programs.

I don’ t know how else they would have our phone number. She also received brochures by mail from them.

Out of state tuition and fees and r&b are $38,000 a year and they require a bachelor degree for pharmacy, so would be pretty expensive and 8 years.

Twogirls, they called two times and missed her and on the third call got a hold of her.

I’ve had 2 calls from students, but I’ve never been around for them. For those of you who have actually talked to the students who have called or have kids who have talked to the students, do you think it was worthwhile? Was there any new information learned?

I think if you consider applying to the school it can be beneficial to talk to a student there.
They told her about some of the scholarships she could qualify for.

This is a common practice. I know OSU does it in order to make each student feel like they are being treated personally and not just as a number (one of the biggest complaints of OSU is how big it is). I did not find my call very helpful; it was definitely a marketing tactic.

That being said, I am a student at OSU and I love it! There are many wonderful aspects of OSU, but their cold-call marketing is not one of them.
