This is similar to my thread on the UC Berkeley forum. I'm having a very difficult time deciding between Cal, UCLA, and USC. Academically, I'm interested in both accounting and English.

Thanks! And expect a similar thread on the USC forum.

I make it a point to never go to the USC forum. You should just cut USC from your list right now actually.

Pro: Its UCLA… 'nuff said :D

In all seriousness, though - what is making it a difficult decision for you? i.e. what are your criteria for the school you want to go to; what is important for you? A pros/cons thread in each respecive school’s forum is likely to be useless.

another con: there are a few self-absorbed, demeaning people here like zzzboy.
pro: those ones stick out like a sore thumb and are therefore fairly easy to avoid in real-life.

PS: zzzboy I actually realized I know you in real-life, and I’m kinda surprised you have this inner…anger or w/e lol. Normally you’re really a pretty cool person :)

If you are truly interested in accounting, you are probably better off at USC than you are at UCLA. UCLA’s accounting program is good and heavily recruited, but USC students have much more opportunity because their accounting program is actually a major and there’s the option of taking IS classes which open up other opportunities within accounting firms.

why would i be on an anti-regents rampage when i am in fact a regents scholar lol?? i just don’t appreciate people acting above other people on campus, because that’s stupid when you’re at a school the caliber of UCLA. i’m blessed and fortunate to be funded in part by two excellent organizations on campus. The people are equally as intelligent and accomplished, and saying one is “better” than the other only show’s one’s true arrogance.

So yes, you’re right. I tell it like it is, and you ARE self-absorbed, demeaning and rude. Personality check…at least you’ve got the first step down.

Prospective students are asking ligitimate questions here to assist them in making their college choice decision. Would it be possible for some of you to simply be helpful and answer questions instead of getting in and prolonging useless arguments that will not assist these people. You should be making UCLA an attractive option for them instead carrying on personal arguments.

GoWorld…who the hell are you to judge me with three posts of mine you’ve seen.

but since we’re playing this game, i can tell you you sound like a loser and a prick who wouldnt dare say anything to anybody in real life. id be happy to show you how rude and demeaning i can be if i ever see your sorry ass on campus

go ahead, report my post to the mods again you little wuss

LOL (10 char). Look at the last three posts and tell me why I SHOULDN’T judge you. I mean honestly. It’s pathetically sad. In real life, why I’d say it straight to your face!

But inquiring is right. Whatever grudges you hold over Regents is silly, as is this argument. I’ll repeat: Both ASC and Regents are fantastic organizations that I’m proud to be a part of. They’re competitive in their own ways, and UCLA is lucky to recruit students of their caliber.

With that said, I’m done with this argument. I’m sure you’ll show your maturity you claim to have, and drop it as well.

Wow. I saw 14 responses and I was really excited about good advice…Thanks guys.

Kidding. That said, I do appreciate witty banter.

Yeah, I know that USC’s accounting program is much more highly regarded. But when I toured there today, I just didn’t feel that USC was right for me.

If I’m admitted to UCLA as an English major, how difficult would it be for me to become a Biz/Econ major? And how difficult is the Biz/Econ major? Seriously now…

It’s not hard to become a biz/econ major as long as you finish the prereqs. I entered UCLA as an English major and didn’t take any english class besides english 4w. You just need to go to the economics department and request to change your major.

Thanks for trying to pull this thread back in the intended direction, wolftron. We’re deciding between the same schools.

At a UCLA event I remember hearing about having the chance to change your major before registering for classes this fall, and that the majority of students change majors at least once.

The concern about UCLA is not being able to get the needed classes. Do current students have this problem and a possible work-around solution?

Yes, it’s sometimes difficult to get needed classes, however if the class is essential to your graduation and part of your major, you usually will be able to get into the class. Works mostly within your own department, when you’re outside of that you’ll need to plan accordingly and have options in your schedule to be able to be flexible. In regards to that, I’ve never had priority and have just about always been able to get my classes - there’s been once or twice that there was a schedule overlap, but it’s worked out fine.

Do you ever have difficulty dealing with the quarter system and the bell curve? Even better, do you have any personal anecdotal experience? I’ve heard quite a few horror stories about the competition at UCLA.
