Tell me about CBS

Those of you who are in that college or about to be -- why did you apply, what are the benefits and advantages? How tough is it -- both to get in and the coursework?
Thanks!

I applied to CBS because I figured I wanted to do something relating to biological science and I didn't want to transfer from CLA to CBS, as there would be other requirements to fulfill first.

Last time I checked, CBS was the hardest of the schools to get in to, though not by very much. For the incoming class of 2012, the average ACT of CBS students was 29.6 while IT was 29.3. Have a look here: Academic Profile

This year is definitely harder to get into the school of your choice. Many of my friends with superb stats are being postponed, even from CLA. I was initially postponed from CBS, but got into CLA. Just last week I got my acceptance from CBS, so the U has moved up on my list.

i applied because i want to major in biochemistry, and as said above, CBS is one of the hardest schools to get into at U of M. i dont know much else...looking forward to hear some good info!

Just got accepted: ) I am going to CBS for my biochemistry degree also. It seems like the CBS is pretty reputable.

BTW, I thought Carlson school is the hardest, am I right?

Yay, I'm doing biochemistry at CBS too!

And ^^^ I'm pretty sure CBS was the hardest....and like IT and Carlson are pretty much even behind it.....hmm maybe not though

I just looked at the academic profile, CBS is indeed the hardest school to get in.
How do your like the biochem program? Are there lot of opportunities to do research and stuff? : )

nice, we have a lot of biochem people here...maybe we'll see each other on campus next fall :D

Are any of you guys going to the Dean's Reception thing today?

There are many factors that go into admissions and the academic profile only shows one piece of the puzzle. I'm not sure why there is so much discussion about what college is the hardest. Some applicants that would've been easily accepted into CBS just are not interested in the biological sciences. Are you not going to be friends with people outside of CBS because they are in a "easier" college? All of my good friends are in different colleges than myself and I don't pass judgment on their colleges. On that note, the U is an awesome school with countless opportunities in all areas and will prepare you well for whatever may lie in your future, whether that's professional school (med, dent, pharm), graduate school (biochem, neuroscience, bio, etc), research, or anything else.

I wanted to go to the dean's thing, but im kinda half way around the world right now...lol
to whoever goes...tell us how it was!
