I'm a bit unfamiliar with Penn State. I was accepted back in December and am very interested in attending. I plan on visiting the campus within the next two weeks. Can someone give me some insight on what it's like to go to school there? Dorms, transportation, people, activities, partying, sports, EVERYTHING!

Thanks so much for the help!

Since no one has responded, I’ll give you a brief overview.

-Dorms are typical crappy college dorms, with the exception of North. There is nothing special/horrible about them.

-Transportation is good, but hardly necessary most of the time. If you live on campus/close to campus, you can walk almost anywhere. In addition, Penn State runs many buses around campus and to the surrounding area (Nittany Mall, Walmart, etc)

-People are like any other college campus. Penn State pulls heavily from Pittsburgh, Philly, New York, Jersey, and also students from Virginia, Maryland, and many other areas.
There is also a sizable international student body.

-If you like partying, you’ll enjoy going to Penn State. State College has over 30 bars (when you become 21), and on the average weekend it is not difficult to find a party.

-Football is king at PSU. During the fall, home football games engulf State College, and turn it into the third largest city in the State. We also have few other good teams such as Women’s Volleyball. However, if you like basketball, our program is sorely lacking.

If you have any other questions I’d be happy to answer them.

I was wondering, how is the party scene for guys who aren’t in frats?

I saw somewhere that it’s easy for women to get into frat parties (just like at clubs anywhere), but hard for men. Will it be hard for a guy to party if he doesn’t have the resources/time to commit to a frat?

You are correct that attractive women have an easer time entering frats, and obtaining alochol than men. Honestly though, after freshmen year you tend to move to apartment parties/house parties until finally you are old enough to hit the bars.

I personally could never stand frat parties, and was more than happy when the group of friends I hung out with wanted to do something else.

Frat parties are only a small percentage of the overall parties at Penn State. If you are like me and dislike frats, or you don’t have the time, there will be plenty of other good places to enjoy yourself.
