Tell me about the Presidential Scholarship

We are hoping our son clears NMSF, but I’m getting a little queasy hearing that the cutoff in some states has gone up 2 or more points.

If he can score the Presidential Scholarship, then Bama is still probably going to be his first or second choice. Can you tell me if the scholarship is automatic for out-of-state kids who meet the criteria? He has the ACT, SAT, and GPA that is published on the website. And the site says that a first time freshman who meets those criteria “will be selected” and “will receive” the value of full out-of-state tuition. Am I reading this correctly?

The Presidential is an automatic scholarship for any student, in state or out of state, if he or she meets the requirements. If tuition increases, your son will receive that increase in his scholarship amount.

It is an assured scholarship as long as you have the test scores (single sitting) and GPA (weighted is fine).

What state are you in? What was your son’s PSAT?

Edit above…

We live in Louisiana and he scored a 211

My gut tells me your son is safe. It’s highly unlikely that Louisiana will jump 2 points. LA’s cut-off isn’t usually that high…it tends to range between 206 - 210. And often is below 210.

It’s very unlikely that it will go to 212…very unlikely.

My son received it automatically, he is OOS with a 32 ACT, 3.8 GPA.
