Hey, I hope I can help you a little; these are what my friends say about the colleges they attend. It is only the opinion of one person, however, so beware.

I know a friend at UPenn who really likes the social scene. She used to be a withdrawn, quiet, and shy person. When she came back I had no idea who she was…she was cheerful and wouldn’t stop talking about the active social scene. Seems like there are plenty of parties, and for everyone. And she still studies a lot.

I have a friend at Cornell who told me that the social scene isn’t too great for him. He finds that many of his dorm mates choose to study, and the parties are “meh” (that’s what he said). Of course, it could be that he isn’t looking in the right places. I’m sure the whole “highest suicide rate of the ivies” think is an exaggeration, but there is probably a basis for the myths. Another friend who went to a summer program there also told me that the campus could be bleak at times.

My friend who goes to SUNY Binghamton enjoys it there very much. I never hear her talking about studying but I hear her talking a lot about going out…or that’s all I hear. She does always seem to be happy though.

Even as a parent, I can tell you about the social scene at Indiana University. Although you can find people that don’t party, they are in the minority. The university has the feel of a small town, and there are many opportunities to socialize. From a neighbor’s experience with UW, it also is very easy for you to find a party on the weekends.
U of Notre Dame is not in the same league as IU, but it is by no means a boring campus. Kids work hard/play hard there. The difference seems to be that the weekend starts on Wednesday at IU, and Friday at ND.

UPenn is in Philly, which is awesome for having stuff to do. Penn is known for its kinda “study hard, party harder” mentality so that kinda sounds like what you want.
