Hi everyone,

My son just received his housing assignment for Fall '12 - Unit 1 mini-suite 2 bedroom. He's a Film Studies major transferring as a junior (although, he's just 18).

Any idea of when he will receive more information about which building, floor and who his roommates are?

What's Unit 1 like? Will he find a good mix of people at Unit 1?

Thanks in advance!

The following link should provide you with more information:

If I remember correctly, roommate contact information (and building and floor information as well) is released late August, maybe about a week before Move-In Day. I lived in Unit 1 for my 1st and 2nd years at Cal, but I did not live in the mini-suites. To me, Unit 1 has the best location out of all the on campus housing, as it is located next to one of the dining halls, and close to most other locations that I frequently went to.

norcalmom - Feels good to get the housing offers huh? I also just received my offer for Unit 1 double mini-suite so we’re on the same page here.

So far I gathered that is it one block away from campus, has a large room relative to the other residence halls, each mini-suite is made up of 2 rooms with 2-3 roommates in each room, and each ms has their own bathroom.

Looking forward to what the opinions are on the Unit 1 double mini-suites!

The room is pretty spacious compared to regular double/triple. The layout is basically:
2 rooms (both minisuites, one is triple and the other is double). Both rooms will share a common bathroom and the same door exit. From what I have heard, minisuites are a bit less social than the regular double/triples, but I’m sure this won’t stop anyone form being social if they chose so.

Unit 1 is quite convenient because it’s a minute walk to the dining common Crossroads. It’s also near the southeast corner of the campus (a minute walk as well). If your son is going to be flying in through SFO, there is a bus that take you straight to unit 1 (well you have to walk for about a mn from the bus stop, but it’s extremely close!). Overall, unit 1 is a pretty convenient location (I’ll actually be dorming again there next year :)! ).
