"tell me about yourself" ?

What sort of things should you say when the interviewer asks you that?
Should I start off with my age and where I live? I have no idea!

Please help, I have an interview tomorrow!

They know your general age, so don't bother with that. I'd start with your general interests academically and Ec wise.

Well, I am graduating a year early... so I was thinking of being like, "I'm sixteen years old and I'm graduating a year early from high school. I'm really involved in blah blah blah"

would that be okay?

I don't think I would lead off with graduating early. That inevitably brings to mind the question of whether or not that is a good idea, are you mature enough to handle college, etc.

I would favor talking about the two or three activities/interests (academic or nonacademic) you are best at and enjoy, activities that you think in some way define you. That would lead logically to your goals for the future and specifically why xyz college is a good place to pursue those goals.

Persuasiveness in these areas will go a long way toward showing that you are ready for college, so the "why graduate early" question, if it comes up, has much less possible sting to it.

here`s a personal experience taken from a friend.

he had gone to starbucks to meet his interviewer. so the only question his interviewer asked was "tell me about yourself." my friend started off talking about his ECs, sports, club positions, etc. and then the interviewer interrupted, "no, i want you to tell me about yourself. dont repeat what`s already stated in the application."

my friend basically stumbled on this question for the next 30 minutes. obviously, his interview did not end up to be that great. i think the interviewer wanted to know about his life and background and what he has a passion for. maybe you should think about it that way too.

that happened in anger management.. your just dreaming :]

well the good news is my interviewer didn't even ask the question :) woohoo

thanks for the advice though!

theinfocenter, what do you mean? this is a true story.

Haha infocenter, I thought of that as well.
