Tell me everything you know about BADA

My D is at UCLA, which as you know, does not allow you to go abroad during the school year. They do, however, encourage study abroad in the summer. My D is one of the ones they have suggested go to BADA where UCLA has a program during the summer.

Has anyone been to BADA? What's it like? How big? What did you study there? Did you like it? What's the weather like in the summer? Where do you live?

She may go there this summer instead of RADA as we had initially planned because her professors think she would enjoy it.

Sorry, no firsthand info but the audition dates are:

Audition Dates in March
for Midsummer in Oxford 2010, Midsummer Conservatory Program 2010 and London Theatre Program (Fall 2010)

UCLA, Los Angeles - Sunday 7th March
Tufts University, Boston - Wednesday 10th March
Juilliard School, NY - Saturday 13th March
Yale School of Drama, New Haven - Monday 15th March
Washington TBC Chicago - Saturday 13th March Dallas TBC
Auditions in London will be arranged on an individual basis throughout March once your application has been received.

London Theatre Program – Fall 2010
USC, Los Angeles - Monday 8th March
Tufts University, Boston - Wednesday 10th March
Sarah Lawrence College, NY Thursday 11th March
Sarah Lawrence College - Friday 12th March

I saw that. My D is very excited and also excited that her UCLA professors specifically told her to audition. (They did not tell everyone…) She will also apply to RADA as a back up…

Wondering why BADA is above RADA on your list?

Also recommendation to check into the Drama Centre. This is an innovative program that is turning out many, if not most, of the younger members of the royal shakespeare company. It is not as well known in the states but it is giving RADA and LAMDA a run for their money in the UK.

BADA over RADA because it is a joint program run by UCLA School of Theatre Film and Television (where my D attends) and Yale School of Theatre run out of BADA at Oxford for college units. My D plans to attend BADA (which is by audition only) and RADA (which is by application but no audition as I understand it), one each summer for the next two summers, leaving her last summer before senior year to work.

My daughter is a USC senior currently at BADA. She describes it as “Christmas Eve every night.” She can’t wait to get up the next day–she feels she’s learning so much. She auditioned to get in–was waitlisted last semester and accepted for this fall semester. They see a lot of plays (2 or 3 a week) and Brian Cox spoke to her class. She got to meet Kevin Spacey (I am jealous). Fiona Shaw may speak later this year.

Downside is cost. Sarah Lawrence is the USC connection and their tuition is higher (although my daughters scholarship was applied to the SL tuition). She’s a general theater major, not a BFA, but she leans toward acting. Some of her friends at USC have also been to the school and they all seemed to love it.

She’s sharing space with other BADA students in an area called “Little Lebanon” which seems safe enough (although she said on the last night of Ramadan it was loud all night). She walks to BADA every day because the walk is so beautiful. I think I can safely say that she gives BADA a huge thumbs up.

My daughter got the acceptance email today, she is soooo excited!

My son received his email of acceptance to BADA today also. He is very excited about this great summer opportunity! Let me know if your son/daughter will be flying out of LAX to Heathrow. Maybe they can connect and take the bus to Oxford together.

Oh! My D didn’t do it… she decided to stay home this summer and is in the run for an internship at La Jolla Playhouse … but next year, so please tell us how it goes!

Fingers crossed for her Chrissy…I’ve heard good things about their internships!

Ok, will do. Best of luck to your daughter for internship this summer with La Jolla Playhouse!

Thanks… I will let you know if she gets it…And I must admit… selfishly. It will be nice to have her home for the summer…

Would love to hear of anyone who has BADA’s Midsummer program…
Thanks
