Tell me how "screwed" I am...

Hi everyone, I am a junior and want to apply as ED next year. Please tell me what are my chances of getting into Wash U. I already submitted the ED form and whatnot. I also live in NY. I am applying for the class of 2017.

SAT:2250

Unweighted GPA is 3.9-4.0
Took AP Bio and revived a 4 and I am taking 4 this year: Ap Enviro, Us, Chem and Lang. SAT II BIO 740. Took SAT II US 690 (Redo possibly in Nov)

I have done some community services in a youth organization racked up 80 plus hours form 9th grade and have volunteered in a hospital for 40 plus hours.

I learn Vocal Indian music from when I was 5 and won an award in 9th grade. I have also gave out many recitals in my temple.

I am the editor of my school newspaper and play varsity tennis from 11th grade, NHS member, won an award for volunteer services, also in clubs such as unity in diversity in which I hope to be vice president, history club which I hope to have a position in next year and math club.

I am also in Science Olympaid and Masterminds, which is like College bowl. I have also done research in Roswell Park Cancer Institute, this summer of 2012.

Thanks for your time

Don’t see how you would be screwed? Work on things and repost this in a year.

No I am applying this year. Sorry about that.

Then you are a senior, not junior and applying ED this year, not next :p

Still don’t see why you would be screwed. You have a decent shot,

Bump bump bump

You have better stats than me so I don’t see why you’re screwed. I believe WashU takes special interest in the Common App essay, so if you weave a great story about yourself, one that allows them to see you being a great fit for the community, then I can see no problem with you being admitted.

Then again, admissions with this caliber school is a huge crapshoot. Given WashU got 28000 applications last year (and is steadily increasing, won’t be too surprised if its 30,000+ this year) for approximately 4000 acceptances and 1500-1600 matriculants, even great applications can sometimes slip through the cracks. Applying ED will significantly boost your chances though and likely give your application more attention (I believe WashU loves demonstrated interest and nothing says demonstrated interest like a signed contract). I believe the acceptance rates are much higher for ED, ~30% compared to ~15-20%.

Thanks a lot. I can’t really visit them too because I live in NY. Bump anyone please

Please anyone bump bump bump bump bump

Can you go to Discovery Weekend?

No because I live on ny

You don’t have to visit the school to demonstrate interest. I’m from NYC and my son was accepted RD to the class of 2016. We didn’t get out to Wash U before his acceptance. My son, however, did find ways to demonstate interest. He attended a couple of info sessions hosted by Wash U at his school (if they don’t visit your school, then find out when they’ll be in you area and go to an admissions session there – this is important). He also sent in correspondence requesting to be put on email and regular mail lists. He already knew Wash U was a good fit for him, so he made sure to convey in his application that he was a good fit for Wash U.

Wash U likes to see both demonstrated interest and that the student “gets” the school.

These days nothing is a sure bet, but your impressive profile certainly puts you in the category of students who are accepted. ED definitely increases your chances. We couldn’t go that route because we needed some financial aid in order to make it work, so we had to be able to compare packages. Fortunately we got some aid from Wash U, not an amazing amount, but enough to take the edge off of tuition payments and loans. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the advice, I am going to apply ed and I forgot to mention that I also received 4s on chem, enviro, Lang and us. And how important is an interview for this school?

Visiting and getting an interview on campus is helpful. If you can’t visit, a local alumni interview will still help.

All right thanks I recently tried to schedule for an interview but still unsure about gaps, but they are visiting my area so still hopeful

Really man, you have to try and relax. Deep breaths. Almost all you can do to get into WUSTL is behind you. Your grades so far, your test scores, EC’s, etc. The best thing you can do now is try and go to a local event and chat up the admissions person a little.

As was said, WUSTL is a tough get for most people. If it doesn’t work out for some reason, it won’t be because of not visiting the school or anything like that. Just talk to your admissions person, even if it is by e-mail. That’s what they are there for. Don’t overdo it, just be relaxed and normal. Make it clear why you want to go to WUSTL. That is the best approach.

Ok thanks just freaking out whether or not if they prefer student with like 1900s on sat and show they are interested or students with like high sats wahhhhh

Sent from my HTC PH39100 using CC

Well, 1900 is still very low for Wash U. They wouldn’t choose someone with a 1900 over someone with a 2250 if the only difference was the person with the 1900 visited and person with the 2250 did not.

Huh? I don’t get this at all. You can see WUSTL’s average stats. Why would you even think that?

WUSTL is extremely selective. Just a shade below the Ivies when it comes to admission requirements. So a 1900 actually has relatively small chances. The rest of their record would have to be amazing.

You really are freaking out. Like I said, take a deep breath and think about this logically. Admissions is sometimes a mystery, but it isn’t completely random.

I just figured out that I am in top 20 percent of my class, can anyone tell me how this is going to affect my acceptence?

It won’t.
