Tell me I have a chance!

Of leaving this god-forsaken state! What schools do I have a shot at?

I’m from small town Oklahoma.
I live with my mom who earns a paltry income as a public school teacher.
I’m a white male.

GPA: 4.46 weighted, 4.0 un-weighted

RANK: 1/463 (tied with GeorgeS)

ACT: 31 as a sophomore

AP:
Biology/b **European World History/b as a sophomore
**U.S. History
, Calculus, and Physics this year
Chemistry, Human Geography, and Spanish next year
Note: Calculus and Physics are taken at OSSM (Oklahoma School of Science and Math) regional center here in my town.

EC:
Co-Founder of Republican club at my school this year
Member of JSA
Member of Spanish Club, Environmental Club, etc… (bs clubs)
Helped with campaigns in previous election
Will hopefully be a page in Washington D.C.
I was in the band until the 9th grade. I was never anything but 1st chair and was also the drum major.

JOB:
Started my own lawn-mowing business last summer. Grew to over 30 customers in one summer.

I will get much better scores on AP tests from here on out, as my teachers will prepare me well and I will know the importance of the tests next time around. 5s on Calculus and AP U.S. History are guaranteed.

Your GPA is perfect, your class rank is perfect, and your ACT is solid as well. Your ECs are mediocre. Make sure to write a perfect essay and get excellent recommendations. You will definitely be able to get out of Oklahoma no doubt. By looking at your curriculum it seems your interested in math/science (physics maybe?).

Schools to look at:
Yale (reach)
Princeton (reach)
Cornell University (match, but I see a good fit here for you, great engineering programs, etc.)
Brown University (match)
University of Chicago (match, great for Physics)
Washington University in St. Louis (match)
Wake Forest (match)
Boston College (match)
NYU (match)
Tufts (match)
Carnegie Mellon University (match)
Purdue University (safety)
WPI (safety)
Penn State (safety)

i disagree with above. you have two leadership positions. thats good! not amazing, but good. try columbia for a match.
carnegie mellon and nyu are safeties.

I disagree with the above post. You can't put safety on NYU and CMU. They would more in the match range instead. I agree with the schools baggypants has.

Good Luck

Jerod

You have really nice stats there. Have you thought of any schools in California? =P

Yeah, I really dont' think NYU/CMU count as safeties they are more on the match side.

:)

What do you guys think his chances (%) are for the upper-ivies...say Harvard,Yale, Princeton?

bump____________________

Baggy's got a good list for you to start with. You might also look at Harvey Mudd and Carlton. Also, remember that HYP are lottery tickets for everyone. If you keep your GPA at its current stellar position, and improve your board scores, you will have a valid lottery ticket to apply. On the positive side - being from Oklahoma will help you at the ultraselective schools. Best wishes and keep up the good work!

You need to take the SAT, and you need a 'hook' for the Ivy league.

I don't think we can determine his chances for Harvard, Yale, or Princeton, unless of course he has legacy there.
