Tell me if I ****ed up

I used the upload feature on the application for my long essay. However, my essay was longer than too pages. I just realized they said it should be no longer than 1 page. But when I copy and pasted the essay, it fit into the box. I used 12 point font on the actual essay document.

Do you think this will be a problem? I'm pretty sure they're reasonable and it's only like a paragraph more than a page so I don't know. I'm pretty sure it won't be but someone sooth/fortify my fears.

oh gosh, I think i did the exact same issue... gah! I hope they will be merciful... I also found out that I accidentally submitted two of my short essays in the wrong boxed... ie. My roomate one was put into the intellectual one and vice versa. Hopefully, the adcom will notice as the essays are pretty clear as to which question they are answering.

Does anybody have any advice on what I should do now? Call them? E-mail them? I'm kinda freakin' out..... :S

email them, and maybe you should call them. i doubt it will be a big problem

Oh god you should definatly contact them.

They say to preview the print version of the document before submitting, since even if it fits in the box it can get cut off when they print it out... so it probably depends on how it comes out in your printed file? Call them, I say.

-random stranger

I doubt it's an issue. 4900 characters is almost two pages of text.

omg what?? did it say that the uploaded document can't be more than a page? OMG mine was like 1.5 pages although when i viewed the print doc nothing got cut off. how can it be 1 page though.. 4900 characters is definitely over a page. ????

has anyone emailed stanford to ask about the one page limit on the uploaded document??

i went over too. it doesnt make sense if there is a 4900 character lim but you can only use one page.

Hmmm, I noticed almost immediately after submitting that one sentences of the short essay was missing a linking verb- more than a minor typo but nothing that changes the meaning. Obviously it doesn't reflect well; is it true that this kind of thing can majorly hurt you (I know they say in the case of scholarship essays that a minor mistake such as that would get it thrown out- wasn't sure if that would be the case with apps or that there's anything to be done besides let it go) ?

I was under the impression that the one page limit was just a guideline. Since they pdf-ed the uploads, I assume that however many pages you have, they will all print out. They did in my print preview, anyway. btw, I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one who went over the recommended 1 page.

lol...my long essay was like 4 pages? haha...although it was doublespaced

I sent my application, but how I do I now view it in its PDF form?

uh oh guys.. when i sent mine in i used size 11 font and majorly tweeked the margins

View Application In Pdf Format. If It Fits Then Dont Worry Otherwise .. Worry!

That doesn't work necessarily because since you've uploaded the document it will show all the pages of it in the pdf format.

yeah can someone please ask?
and things like getting half a word cut off won't have a big significance right? can anyone speak from experience?
it sucks to worry about things that can't be changed.

Hey guys,

don't worry about it, as long as your essays weren't unnecessarily long, i'm sure it will be fine. Also, I've got a question, about common application, might be the wrong forum though since Stanford isn't common app, but still, on the short answers they allow for more characters than words, so is it ok to exceed the world limit, if the activity that you are "elaborating" on justifies the length?

thanks

yeah, I think it would be okay. The commonapp word limits are almost criminally too small so I would say it's a-okay.

The system will not allow input of anything more than 4900 characters for the long essay. (I attempted to put too many in and it refused to paste.)
