Tell me, rich kids... do I have a shot?

Hello, CC. I'm wondering if I have a chance at getting into the following schools.

Carnegie Mellon

UC Berkeley

UCLA

NYU (Stern)

WUSTL

UNC Chapel Hill

My recommendations are coming from an AP math teacher and an AP english teacher. One of them graduated from Stanford, so I'm sure they'll be excellent.

skills:
not sure if they're relevant, but they've definitely helped me

familiarity with some HTML and CSS

experience with Visual Basic.

able to enter data quickly and accurately at approximately 110 words per minute.

That's pretty much all I've got. There's a bit more on my resume, but I don't believe it's worth posting.
Thanks.

I think your grades and work experience is great, shows that you’re already taking steps in business on your own. Only thing i would say is weak would be ECs but obviously your businesses are somewhat of an EC in their own right. Also, consider taking some Subject Tests

@claxcowboys i’m taking lit + us hist in november. additionally, i actually had no time to pursue academic ECs. i literally worked or was working independently for the majority of high school (even now). schools will realize that…right?

@handlebiz69‌ yeah i feel, i would say just make sure to address that in you essays

@claxcowboys definitely. thanks!

@handlebiz69‌ also just so you know, as a Texas student I know that McCombs takes 75% of students from in state, so it’s balls hard to get in if you aren’t from Texas

Which school at Cornell? Am guessing AEM/Dyson within Ag.

Middle 50th % SAT scores of enrolled freshmen at Cornell this fall: 1350-1500. Your 1360 puts you just above the 25th%. There is some variation among scores across colleges, but not as much as you would think. (Math 75th is 800 in Engineering, but the other schools’ scores are closer than you would expect.)

Your work experience is excellent and may allow AEM to overlook the low SAT score. I don’t suppose you have time to take SAT I in Nov and SAT IIs in Dec? Of course, if you are applying to A&S at Cornell, you need those SAT IIs to apply but if applying elsewhere, SAT II may not be needed so can defer that until after ED deadline.

@clawcowboys I’m in TX.
@CT1417 I know my SAT is relatively low for cornell. I am applying to AEM. I also suspect that my work experience may be beneficial…

What about the other schools?

gonna want to raise that composite SAT for most of those schools, esp. mccombs. im applying to ut austin as well, but for engineering. chance me back???

@vs1997 sure. thanks for the input, but I’ve already taken the SAT 3 times. I’ll have to use my score.
mccombs doesn’t have a very high SAT average, though. however, BHP (the honors program within mccombs) does have a very high average.

yeah but mentioned that you are OOS? then mccombs is crazy difficult!!! whether BHP or not! I hate to say this, but it ut and those others are reaches, esp. since that is the last sat! :/

I would focus on increasing the SAT I score instead of taking Lit & USH.

Rather than trying to improve my mediocre score on the SAT (the 93rd percentile isn’t good enough for CC), I’m going to try the ACT. I’m still going to take my subject tests because I’m already registered, but I got some valuable insight from you guys.
Sweet.

Thanks for chancing me! The SAT score is going to hurt, hopefully you’ll do well on the ACT. GPA is great, and your courseload seems relatively rigorous. Your work experience is good, but your ECs are very weak.

Applicants who score in the 25th percentile on the SAT and make it into Cornell usually have some kind of experience to differentiate them from the rest. The work experience is good, but I’m not sure if it will be enough to compensate for the SAT and the ECs. I’d say Cornell is a high reach. It seems like you have a couple matches, I would add another safety, since most of the schools you’ve listed are very competitive.

Best of luck!

Pretty good advice.

Everything you have is golden, the only main thing that stands out is your SAT score. Try to bump that up a little bit maybe…

Your pros definitely outweigh you cons. I see your ECs work academics etc. will all carry you further.

Like I said tho, those SAT scores are ouchy…

Anyways, please chance me! Thank you!

You are a Texas resident…can you afford all the OOS publics you have listed? You won’t get aid from any of them.
