Tell me what you know about Southwestern Univ in Georgetown TX

After visiting 8 schools in Texas and Oklahoma, it looks like Southwestern in Georgetown TX is son's favorite. Tell me what you know about it - good or bad.

My brother lives in the town, right down the street. What a pretty school and a great community. We heard that it's great but check out some of the websites by kids (can't think of the names) and that will give you some inside info. I do think it's a great community though!! (speed traps everywhere though so keep your eyes open and speed down!)

2 words- hardcore parties

located in a suburb of austin- good liberal arts school. its in a nicer part of the state than austin college which is located in "less than desirable" sherman.

Hardcore parties? Are you sure you're not confusing it with San Marcos?

I'm an alum of Southwestern and I know a few current students. They offer and excellent education and great merit scholarships. Your son may particularly enjoy the male/female ratio, which is now around 40/60, if I recall correctly. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Oooh, the male female ratio IS a plus....that was a plus for Oklahoma City University, too. Austin College and Southwestern look so much alike on paper, and both are CTCL, but apparently the SW campus is much prettier. I've only known one person to have gone there and she went only one year and disliked it.....but she attended three different LACs in 3 years then quit (after her parents had paid all that $$$) so I don't value her opinion a lot.

The Southwestern campus is quite pretty - all limestone buildings - and they've done a great job adding/updating the buildings. Georgetown is a nice small town that has been well-preserved, but it is close enough to Austin to get away if needed. When I returned for my reunion two years ago, it was interesting to see the buildings that replaced older buildings. The new buildings incorporated a lot of the details that made the old buildings special, so they seemed familiar.

I have a friend who is a strong alum, and one of her kids is a grad. The quality of life is good at Southwestern and kids are very happy. Academics are challenging but the atmosphere is not cutthroat. I think it is a perfect compromise- you get to be near UT but attend a smaller school with more personal attention. I have never heard the "hardcore partying" label put on Southwestern.

Thanks everyone. Any other thoughts?

I've heard good things about it. I live in Texas, and people keep telling me to apply there. Plus, their brochure has a yellow Schwinn bike on it, so they must be cool there. lol
